Several individuals supported by Glenwood recently participated in a collaborative event with The Arc of Central Alabama’s People First Chapter. The gathering provided a meaningful opportunity to connect with peers, explore community resources, and strengthen self-advocacy skills.
Throughout the meeting, participants discussed educational opportunities, with several expressing interest in pursuing higher education. Conversations also focused on independent living, including preparation for apartment living and building greater self-sufficiency.
The group explored internet and social media safety, learning strategies to protect personal information and make responsible decisions online. Participants were also introduced to volunteer opportunities and ways to engage in their communities through CQL’s “Three E’s” framework: Education, Experience, and Exposure.
Following the meeting, attendees shared lunch together, providing time to build relationships with peers from The Arc. Several participants exchanged contact information with the newly elected President of The Arc’s People First Chapter, creating opportunities for continued friendship and community involvement.
Glenwood was honored to participate and is grateful for the invitation to attend future People First meetings. This partnership with The Arc of Central Alabama reflects a shared commitment to inclusion, independence, community engagement, and meaningful relationships.
