Journey Academy Artists Featured in Alabama Capitol Art Exhibition

Glenwood is proud to celebrate two talented artists from Journey Academy whose artwork was selected for the Alabama Department of Mental Health’s 2026 Capitol Showcase Art Exhibition in Montgomery.

Each May, in observance of Mental Health Month, the Alabama Department of Mental Health hosts the Capitol Showcase Art Exhibition at the Alabama State Capitol. The exhibit highlights artwork created by individuals from across the state with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders, providing artists an opportunity to share their creativity and talents with the public.

This year, two Journey Academy students had their artwork accepted into the statewide exhibition:

Tony "Prize Winning Catch" Art
Tony Paige – “Prize Winning Catch”
Richard Housewright – “Patriotic Angel”

Both pieces were displayed at the Alabama State Capitol throughout the month of May as part of the 2026 showcase.

The exhibition reception was held on May 21 in the Supreme Court Library at the Capitol Building, bringing together artists, families, supporters, and community members from across Alabama to celebrate the incredible talent represented in the gallery.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of several dedicated staff members. Special thanks to Renee Fox, Marquita Wages, Joe Carter, Ann Phillips, and Lee Yount for their encouragement, inspiration, scheduling assistance, and continued support of the Art Center and its students.

We are incredibly proud of Tony and Richard for sharing their creativity and representing Journey Academy and Glenwood so well on a statewide stage.
