We are extending our in-house committee’s capacity to serving agencies across the state. In order to utilize the committee’s services, an agency will have to first apply to become an approved research site. Once approved, they can send in research proposals.

What is Glenwood?
Glenwood is a nonprofit organization based in Birmingham, Alabama that provides autism services and behavioral health care for children, adolescents, and adults. Services include diagnosis, therapy, education, residential programs, and community support.
Who does Glenwood serve?
Glenwood serves individuals from as young as 18 months through adulthood, including those with autism spectrum disorder and other behavioral health needs such as ADHD, anxiety, and developmental delays.
Getting Started
How do I get services at Glenwood?
The first step is contacting the Intake Department. A team member will gather information, discuss needs, and guide you to the appropriate services.
Do I need a referral to receive services?
No referral is required for most outpatient services such as therapy, testing, and counseling.
What is the intake process like?
After your initial call, you may complete an intake packet. Once received, the Intake Coordinator will follow up with next steps and service recommendations.

Glenwood offers a full continuum of care including:

Does Glenwood provide autism diagnosis?
Yes. Glenwood provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for autism and related developmental or behavioral conditions starting as early as 18 months.
Do you offer therapy without being a residential client or student?
Yes. Outpatient services are available to the community and do not require enrollment in residential or school programs.

Does Glenwood accept insurance?
Yes. Glenwood accepts many insurance plans, including Medicaid and private insurance, though coverage varies by plan.
Will I have out-of-pocket costs?

Residential & Education
Does Glenwood offer residential care?
Yes. Glenwood provides residential programs for children and adults with autism and behavioral health needs in structured, supportive home environments.
What is included in residential programs?
Residents receive 24/7 care, individualized treatment plans, access to educational programming, and life skills support in a safe and structured setting.
Does Glenwood have a school?
Yes. Glenwood operates specialized educational programs for students with autism and developmental disabilities, including the Glenwood Kindergarten and Allan Cott School at Sicard Hollow.
