Glenwood Celebrates Grand Opening of “Library in the Woods”

Designed specifically with Glenwood’s kindergarten classrooms in mind, the Library in the Woods offers a calm, engaging, and developmentally supportive environment where early learners can explore reading, storytelling, and hands-on discovery. The space was intentionally created to foster curiosity, support foundational learning skills, and provide a peaceful setting that enhances classroom instruction.

Surrounded by a natural wooded setting, the library blends learning and nature in a way that encourages exploration and imagination. Inside, thoughtfully designed reading areas, interactive learning spaces, and child-friendly resources give students a place to grow academically while also developing confidence and social skills.

The grand opening event on Friday welcomed staff, families, donors, and community partners for guided tours and a celebration of the vision behind the project. Guests had the opportunity to experience the space firsthand and see how it will directly support Glenwood’s kindergarten students.

A key contributor to the project was Birmingham-Southern College, which generously donated more than 4,000 books and furniture, helping furnish and bring the Library in the Woods to life. Their support played an important role in creating a rich, welcoming environment for young learners.

Leaders at Glenwood highlighted the importance of early learning environments that are both structured and nurturing.

The project was made possible through the support of generous donors and partners who share Glenwood’s commitment to providing innovative educational environments for children with autism and behavioral health needs.

With the Library in the Woods now officially open, it will serve as an ongoing resource for Glenwood’s kindergarten program, supporting daily learning activities, literacy development, and special classroom experiences throughout the year.
