Unlocking Potential: Skilynn’s Journey at the Pool

At Glenwood, every small step forward is worth celebrating. For Skilynn, the pool was once a source of both joy and frustration. She absolutely loved the water, but pool time also came with significant challenges.

Just one year ago, her access to the pool had to be limited. Structured schedules were in place, and only a small number of people could be present when she swam. Even with these restrictions, transitions were hard. Leaving the pool often led to difficult and sometimes unsafe behaviors.

With support and consistency, things started to change.

The transformation didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistent support, evidence-based strategies, and a lot of patience and encouragement from her Glenwood team. With the right environment and guidance, Skilynn began to unlock her potential, both in and out of the pool.

“She’s making tremendous progress,” says Emily Logino, Senior Behavior Analyst. “She now plays safely in large groups, communicates more clearly, and transitions away from the pool with ease. These are huge milestones that reflect the hard work she’s put in and the strong support around her.”

This summer, Skilynn is doing so much more than swimming. She’s acquiring new language skills, expressing herself with more confidence, and learning how to wait her turn, share, and tolerate frustration. Her social development has taken off, and she’s thriving in group environments that used to feel overwhelming.

Most importantly, she now ends her pool time with a smile, ready to move on to the next activity.

Skilynn’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when children are met with patience, care, and opportunity. At Glenwood, we believe every child has potential waiting to be unlocked, and we’re honored to be part of their journey.
