Glenwood’s President and CEO Announces Retirement
Deborah “Lee” Yount, who has been Glenwood, Inc.’s President and Chief Executive Officer since 1981, has announced her retirement from the position effective January 17, 2020. She will continue in a consulting and advisory role through a transition period. Glenwood Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ken Oliver will replace Yount as Chief Executive Officer.

Glenwood has grown from serving 18 individuals in 1974 to touching the lives of more than 10,000 families annually between the ages of 18 months to elderly adults. The private nonprofit organization started by a small group of community leaders with a commitment to providing treatment, education and research in the area of children’s mental health has grown into one of the largest nonprofit behavioral health centers in Alabama.
“Glenwood is known for its work with severely emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children and its expertise in autism spectrum disorder,” said Glenwood Board Chair Philip Young. “Lee is a true servant leader who has made a significant impact on mental health issues in our state. The growth over the past 38 years is astounding, and Lee has led that. When she started 1 in 10,000 people were being diagnosed with autism. Today 20 percent of school children will be diagnosed with mental health disorders, and 1 in 59 children will be diagnosed with the autism. We are really fortunate to have had her at the helm of this important work.”
Oliver joined Glenwood in 2013 after more than 25 years in senior positions with health care entities, most recently with one of the largest, private nonprofit organizations in the country. He holds a master’s in public administration from the University of Tennessee and has a graduate degree in health care administration from UAB.
