Glenwood adult featured in Capitol Showcase
Since 2005, the Alabama Department of Mental Health has hosted the Capitol Showcase, a consumer art show at Alabama’s State Capitol. People from around the state with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders have their abilities showcased throughout May, in observance of Mental Health Awareness Month.
This year, Chris is one artist featured in the show. Chris is an adult served by the Glenwood Journey Academy. This service provides an authentic community experience for adults with autism in a comfortable, controlled environment. Activities include volunteer, leisure, and work-related outings. One activity that Chris enjoys is visiting the Glenwood Arts Center once a week. There, he experiences art, music, and even drumming. He created this piece at the Arts Center by arranging pieces of fabric with the help of other adults in the program.
