90 Candles

It only takes a spark to ignite a flame that grows and lights the way for years to come.

Mallie Ireland will soon celebrate her 90th birthday. About 45 years ago she was one of a group that started what is now known as Glenwood. Initially 16 students were served in the basement of St. Luke’s Church. Today Glenwood touches the lives of thousands of families through more than 20 programs and has offices in Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery. In addition to being engaged with the mission, Mallie has ignited a love within her children, grandchildren and friends for the people we serve.  Truly this has been one of her greatest gifts.

For Mallie’s birthday, which is August 31, we invite you to help honor her with a gift to complete our new Community Center. It will open soon in Avondale to serve children. The total cost of the Center is $820,000, with $320,000 in gifts already earmarked in Mallie’s honor. Our goal is to raise an additional $90,000 in the next 30 days which will allow us to complete and furnish the center AND to name it in her honor. With 1 in 59 children born today being diagnosed with autism and the rise in mental health concerns for children, this work is more important than ever.
