United Way Gives Out $35 Million

The United Way of Central Alabama announced Thursday it was allocating $35,020,000 to agencies and programs in its five-county service area.

This includes $34.8 million raised in the 2006 campaign that concluded Dec. 7 and $170,000 from the United Way’s endowment and other sources.

The Birmingham-based United Way raises money in a five-county area and funds more than 70 health and human service agencies in Jefferson, Shelby, Walker, Blount and St. Clair counties.
